Light Kwametse Aboetaka um homem africano que não se distanciou de suas raízes. Uma iniciativa, um movimento e uma ação que se transformou em um força tarefa que pode, salvar o mundo. Light Kwametse Aboetaka define em poucas palavras “Juntos por uma África mais verde”. Para quem ainda não sabe, existe o reflorestamento na África. Principalmente em lugares áridos, com pouca ou sem nenhuma vegetação nativa. Iremos contar como tudo começou, através de um homem que enxergou a possibilidade de transformação no mundo através da natureza. Começando pela África! Chegamos até Light Kwametse Aboetaka através da designer de moda Mary Martin London que o apresentou a Editora chefe da Magazine Eliana Oliveira, que achou o projeto inovador e de grande alcance e inclusive, com muitas possibilidades de chegar até o Brasil. Light Kwametse Aboetaka nos conta o início desta jornada e um pouco da sua história de vida, numa entrevista exclusiva para a Magazine. Uma missão nobre que consiste em plantar árvores na África.
O projeto tem uma identidade verdadeira dentro de um sistema novo. Tendo um extremo valor de valorização da natureza e ao mesmo tempo de inclusão social. O projeto se apresenta com verdade, ou seja, plantamos árvores na África … E com um conceito! AAA African Afforestation Association eV em Düsseldorf existe desde 2012, com a missão de plantar árvores na África. Reflorestamento em áreas que perderam suas florestas devido às mudanças climáticas. Eles utilizam uma tecnologia acessível e sustentável – o ” Waterboxx ” – para plantar árvores em paisagens áridas e desertas. Isso não apenas ajuda o meio ambiente, mas também cria empregos locais, uma iniciativa de inclusão e valorização social. Com muitos projetos idealizados e também realizados eles tem como objetivo alcançar um futuro melhor para o povo na África. Uma das realizações está nas construções de casas, apoio aos jovens, com a criação de subsistência para as pessoas na África. Muitos projetos foram realizados, e destacamos alguns que fazem parte deste trabalho que é uma referência em todo o Continente africano, como na Europa e em outros países.
O projeto piloto em Mafi-Anfoe, em Ghana no ano de 2017 foi um grande sucesso, em Ghana um outro projeto de construção de quiosque como pontos de vendas para frutas e árvores. Também em Mafi-Anfoe foi feito a construção da sala de jantar, já em Lavra em Ghana foi criado a plantação de jacarandá. Para se ter uma ideia da importância deste projeto para a humanidade. Verificamos os números para se ter uma base do tamanho deste sucesso que é global. Foram plantadas 2.312 de árvores, atingirão uma área verde de 3. 826 m², em 37 projetos ativos em todo o mundo. Nesta entrevista exclusiva com Light Kwametse Aboetaka descobrimos através dele que a melhor época para se plantar uma árvore é agora! LAS – Quem é Light Kwametse Aboetaka ?
LKA – Light Kwametse Aboetaka é um ativista climático e de desenvolvimento, fundador e diretor executivo (CEO) da Associação de Florestamento da África. eV (AAA), uma organização não governamental (ONG) de ação climática com sede na Alemanha (com escritórios de representação em Ghana e outras partes do mundo) que usa métodos científicos de árvores frutíferas e plantio de árvores em áreas secas sem irrigação, chamado Groasis Waterboxx Technology.
LAS – O que Ghana representa para você?
LKA – Nascido e criado em uma família real, eu vejo Ghana como um lar.
LAS – Como foi sair de Ghana para enfrentar a vida na Europa?
LKA- Foi um momento desafiador da minha vida, deixando entes queridos para um destino desconhecido. Tudo era incerto. A vida ficou difícil na chegada, onde tive que enfrentar rigorosos requisitos de imigração. Mesmo assim, não desisti.
LAS – Você teve que abrir mão de alguns sonhos? Qual?
LKA – Sim, sonho em estudar engenharia agrícola na Dinamarca.
LAS – Valeu a pena? Por quê?
LKA – Sim. Vejo resultados significativos e impactantes de meus projetos na AAA.
LAS – Diante das dificuldades que enfrentou no passado, que tipo de lições você aprendeu?
LKA – Não se deve desistir dos seus sonhos.
LAS – Olhando para trás em tudo que você enfrentou, e hoje recebendo reconhecimento internacional pela pessoa que você é. Você acredita que o destino o colocou nesta missão de volta a Ghana?
LKA – Acredito firmemente. A ideia é se estabelecer na diáspora, voltar para casa e retribuir à sociedade.
LAS – Como foi para você se estabelecer na Alemanha?
LKA – Inicialmente, a vida na Alemanha era uma tempestade pela qual naveguei. Eu tive problemas graves de imigração e nenhuma fonte regular de renda. Eu tive que canalizar recursos para atender aos requisitos de imigração, o que consumia muito tempo. A certa altura, pensei que tinha desperdiçado minha vida deixando Ghana.
LAS- Você passou por vários países; conte-me sobre essas experiências?
LKA – Quando cheguei à Dinamarca e não tinha condições de pagar minhas mensalidades escolares, as autoridades dinamarquesas me disseram para deixar a Dinamarca em dois dias, tornando muito difícil pensar naquele momento. Finalmente decidi fugir para a Alemanha, que também foi um desafio desde o início. A certa altura, na Alemanha, fui preso para ser deportado para Ghana, mas fui poupado.
LAS – Entrar no campo da agricultura foi um divisor de águas na sua vida?
LKA – Sim
LA – Por quê?
LKA – Na diáspora, minha vida começou a mudar quando comecei a me matricular em programas avançados de treinamento agrícola, incluindo a Tecnologia Groasis Waterboxx – a base da AAA. Aqui estamos nós hoje!
LAS – Você conheceu vários profissionais da área de ciências florestais; me conte um pouco sobre essa experiência?
LKA- Eu conheci o Dr. Esiamah da Alemanha e Petter Hoff da Holanda Forestry, que eram cientistas. Eles me incentivam a aprender a Tecnologia Waterboxx .
LAS – O que é a Tecnologia Waterboxx?
LKA – O Groasis Waterboxx é um dispositivo projetado para ajudar a cultivar árvores em áreas secas. Foi inventado e desenvolvido pelo ex- exportador de flores holandês Pieter Hoff . Grandes áreas de terra no mundo são muito secas para que as árvores sobrevivam. Embora a água possa estar presente no solo, muitas vezes é muito profunda para que pequenas árvores desenvolvam uma estrutura de raiz para alcançá-la. A tecnologia Waterboxx resolve o problema do cultivo de plantas em desertos, áreas erodidas, terrenos baldios e rochas. O objetivo desta Tecnologia é replantar essas áreas, recuperar a cobertura vegetal e torná-las produtivas com árvores frutíferas e hortaliças.
LAS – Como surgiu a ideia da Africa Afforestation Association eV (AAA) vem?
LKA – Sou orientado para o desenvolvimento. A ideia do AAA surgiu quando ouvi falar da Tecnologia Waterboxx. Eu sabia que a Tecnologia aborda as dificuldades de plantio de árvores enfrentadas por várias comunidades em Ghana. Achei prudente ser treinado e formar uma organização que apresentará Ghana e outros países africanos a ela.
LAS – Você já tinha em mente encontrar uma instituição que fosse necessária para Ghana?
LKA – A ideia era voltar e contribuir para o desenvolvimento de Ghana. Inicialmente, eu não sabia que isso se manifestaria através do AAA. Como mencionado anteriormente, quando ouvi falar sobre a Waterboxx Technology, concebi a ideia de formar uma organização necessária para as necessidades de arborização de Ghana.
LAS – Atualmente você tem escritórios na Alemanha, Dinamarca, Reino Unido, Ghana, Quênia, Etiópia, Nigéria e Togo. Como é feito esse trabalho de conscientização e ação em áreas secas?
LKA – AAA se relaciona com os departamentos relevantes desses países para educar sobre o aquecimento global e como as operações da AAA por meio da tecnologia Waterboxx ajudam a enfrentá-lo. Assim que o AAA ganha audiência, o AAA realiza um projeto piloto de plantio de árvores em uma área seca do país designado. Com financiamento de doadores, a AAA então lança operações expandidas nessas áreas. Os resultados são sempre positivos.
LAS – Como você vê a expansão desse projeto em vários países?
LKA – Muito positivo. Os desafios ambientais, incluindo o aquecimento global, afetam todos os países. O Waterboxx promete a solução.
LAS – Como funciona o recrutamento AAA para mulheres e jovens na África e imigrantes africanos ilegais na Europa, América e América do Sul?
LKA – Dada a desigualdade de gênero na África e consistente com os Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável das Nações Unidas, o recrutamento da AAA prioriza as mulheres. Para o empoderamento, a AAA também visa os jovens e migrantes africanos ilegais em outros continentes.
LAS – O que pensa sobre a migração ilegal?
LKA – A migração ilegal é um desafio de desenvolvimento que África enfrenta. Jovens com talentos que, quando dadas oportunidades no continente, podem contribuir para o crescimento do continente, acabam em outros continentes. Dado os gargalos da imigração, eles também não contribuem para os países em que se encontram, pois vivem ilegalmente e não podem aproveitar oportunidades econômicas significativas. Seu talento e energia acabam sendo desperdiçados. As pessoas aludem ao atual status de desenvolvimento africano ao comércio de escravos e ao colonialismo que ocorreu séculos atrás – quando os cérebros econômicos e científicos do continente foram destruídos ao serem enviados para trabalhar nas plantações. É triste notar que tal desperdício transcendeu a época e aconteceu no século XXI .
LAS – Fale-me sobre o Programa de Remigração, onde esses imigrantes ilegais são enviados de volta à África para trabalhar em projetos AAA na África?
LKA – Na AAA, acreditamos que uma das principais causas da migração ilegal são as dificuldades e a falta de oportunidades na maioria dos países africanos. Criar oportunidades de carreira é uma abordagem crucial para desencorajar a prática. A migração induzida pelas mudanças climáticas também está aumentando. Nosso programa de remigração visa enviar imigrantes ilegais africanos em outros continentes de volta ao continente, onde serão criadas oportunidades para que trabalhem nos projetos da AAA.
LAS – Como você encara o aquecimento global?
LKA – Estamos enfrentando o aquecimento global por meio de nossas operações de plantio de árvores usando a tecnologia Groasis Waterboxx
LAS – Quais são as próximas ações da AAA na África?
LKA – Colaborar com a União Africana no Projeto Grande Muralha Verde para plantar árvores e árvores frutíferas (8 bilhões) em áreas secas da África, com foco nas zonas do Saara e do Sahel.
LAS – Através do lema “Uma árvore, mil esperanças”, que tipo de ações acredita realizar?
LKA – Como você já sabe, as árvores têm um papel crucial na absorção dos gases de efeito estufa da atmosfera. Voltamo-nos para contribuir para este objetivo e, ao mesmo tempo, resolver problemas sociais prementes. As árvores que plantamos não são apenas comuns: incorporamos árvores alimentícias e árvores que podem, a longo prazo, ser convertidas em madeira (e reflorestadas) para gerar renda. A Tecnologia também apoia o plantio de hortaliças (em escalas pequenas e comerciais) para suprir as necessidades nutricionais das famílias. As operações de plantio também geram empregos. Em essência, contribuímos para a chave dos Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável: Ação Climática, Fome Zero, Sem Pobreza, Boa Saúde e Bem-Estar e Redução da Desigualdade.
LAS – Aqui no Brasil também temos o conhecido sertão nordestino que engloba os seguintes estados: Bahia, Alagoas, Pernambuco, Paraíba, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Piauí e Sergipe. Você acredita que existe alguma possibilidade de que esse projeto funcione também no Brasil?
LKA – Acredito firmemente que o Brasil pode se beneficiar. O Brasil é um país em desenvolvimento que enfrenta desafios ambientais, incluindo o esgotamento florestal (a Floresta Amazônica, por exemplo) e a migração induzida pelo clima. Nossos programas de Tecnologia Groasis e Remigração são cruciais.
LAS – Pretende implementar este projeto fora do continente africano?
LKA – Sim, espero realizar projetos na América do Sul e Ásia, visando países cujas terras estão esgotadas e são impactadas pela crise climática.

Interview with Light Kwametse Aboetaka.

An initiative, a movement and an action that has become a task force that can save the world. Light Kwametse Aboetaka defines in a nutshell “Together for a greener Africa”. For those who still don’t know, there is reforestation in Africa. Mainly in arid places, with little or no native vegetation. We will tell you how it all started, through a man who saw the possibility of transformation in the world through nature. Starting with Africa! We arrived at Light Kwametse Aboetaka through fashion designer Mary Martin London who introduced him to the Editor-in-Chief of Magazine Eliana Oliveira, who found the project innovative and far-reaching and even with many possibilities of reaching Brazil. Light Kwametse Aboetaka tells us the beginning of this journey and a little bit of his life story, in an exclusive interview for Magazine. A noble mission that consists of planting trees in Africa. The project has a true identity within a new system. Having an extreme value of valuing nature and at the same time of social inclusion. The project presents itself with truth, that is, we plant trees in Africa… And with a concept! AAA African Afforestation Association eV in Düsseldorf has existed since 2012 with a mission to plant trees in Africa. Reforestation in areas that have lost their forests due to climate change. They use an affordable and sustainable technology – the “Waterboxx” – to plant trees in arid and desert landscapes. This not only helps the environment, but also creates local jobs, an initiative for social inclusion and appreciation. With many projects conceived and also carried out, they aim to achieve a better future for the people of Africa. One of the achievements is in building houses, supporting youth, creating livelihoods for people in Africa. Many projects were carried out, and we highlight some that are part of this work that is a reference throughout the African continent, as well as in Europe and in other countries. The pilot project in Mafi-Anfoe, Ghana in 2017 was a great success, in Ghana another project to build kiosk as points of sale for fruits and trees. Also in Mafi-Anfoe the construction of the dining room was carried out, while in Lavra in Ghana the jacaranda plantation was created. To get an idea of the importance of this project for humanity. LAS – Who is Light Kwametse Aboetaka?
LKA- Light Kwametse Aboetaka is a climate and development activist, founder, and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Africa Afforestation Association. e.V (AAA), a climate-action non-governmental organization (NGO) headquartered in Germany (with representative offices in Ghana and other parts of the world) which usesscientific methods of Fruits trees and Tree planting in dry areas without irrigation, called Groasis Waterboxx Technology.
LAS – What does Ghana represent for you?
LKA – Born and raised in a royal family, I see Ghana as a home.
LAS – What was it like to leave Ghana to face life in Europe?
LKA- It was a challenging moment of my life, leaving loved ones behind to an unknown destination. Everything was uncertain. Life turned tough upon arrival, where I had to confront stringent immigration requirements. Nevertheless, I did not give up.
LAS – Did you have to give up some dreams? Which?
LKA – Yes, I dream of studying for a degree in agricultural engineering in Denmark.
LAS – Was it worth it? Why?
LKA – Yes. I see meaningful and impactful results from my projects at AAA.
LAS – Faced with the difficulties you faced in the past, what kind of lessons did you learn?
LKA – One should not give up on their dreams
LAS – Looking back on everything you’ve faced, and today getting international recognition for the person you are. Do you believe that fate put you on this mission back to Ghana?
LKA – I firmly believe. The idea is to be established in the diaspora, return home and give back to society.
LAS – What was it like for you to settle in Germany?
LKA – Initially, life in Germany was a storm I navigated. I had severe immigration issues and no regular source of income. I had to channel resources to meet immigration requirements, which was very time-consuming. At a point, I thought I had wasted my life leaving Ghana.
LAS- You went through several countries; tell me about these experiences?
LKA – When I first arrived in Denmark and could not afford to pay my school fees, Denmark authorities told me to leave Denmark within two days, making it very difficult to think at that moment. I finally decided to escape to Germany, which was also challenging from the beginning. At one point in Germany, I was arrested for deportation to Ghana, but I was spared.
LAS – Was entering the field of agriculture a watershed in your life?
LKA – Yes
LAS – Why?
LKA –In the Diaspora, my life began changing when I started enrolling in advanced agricultural training programs, including the Groasis Waterboxx Technology – the foundation of AAA. Here we are today!
LAS – You met several professionals in the field of forest science; tell me a little about this experience?
LKA- I met Dr Esiamah from Germany and Petter Hoff from the Netherlands Forestry, who were scientists. They encourage me to learn the Waterboxx Technology.
LAS – What is Waterboxx Technology?
LKA – The Groasis Waterboxx is a device designed to help grow trees in dry areas. It was invented and developed by Dutch former flower exporter Pieter Hoff. Large land areas in the world are too dry for trees to survive. Although water may be present in the ground, it is often too deep for small trees to develop a root structure to reach. The Waterboxx Technology solve the problem of growing plants in deserts, eroded areas, badlands and on rocks. The purpose of this Technology is to replant such areas, restore the vegetation cover and make them productive with fruit trees and vegetables.
LAS – How did the idea of Africa Afforestation Association e.V (AAA) come about?
LKA – I am development-driven. The idea for AAA came about when I heard about the Waterboxx Technology. I knew the Technology addresses tree planting difficulties facing several communities in Ghana. I thought it prudent to be trained and form an organization that will introduce Ghana and other African countries to it.
LAS – Did you already have in mind find an institution that was necessary for Ghana?
LKA – The idea was to return and contribute to Ghana’s development. Initially, I did not know that this would manifest through AAA. As mentioned previously, when I heard about Waterboxx Technology, I conceived the idea of forming an organization necessary for the afforestation needs of Ghana.
LAS – You currently have offices in Germany, Denmark, the UK, Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia, Nigeria and Togo. How is this awareness and action work done in dry areas?
LKA – AAA liaises with relevant departments of these countries to educate about global warming and how AAA operations through the Waterboxx Technology help to confront it. Once AAA gains an audience, AAA undertakes a pilot tree-planting project in a dry area of the designated country. With funding from donors, AAA then launches expanded operations in such areas. Results are always positive.
LAS – How do you see the expansion of this project in several countries?
LKA – Very positive. Environmental challenges, including global warming, affect every country. The Waterboxx promises the solution.
LAS – How does AAA recruitment work for women and youth in Africa and illegal African migrants in Europe, America and South America?
LKA – Given Gender inequality in Africa and consistent with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, AAA recruitment prioritizes women. Towards empowerment, AAA also targets the youth and illegal African migrants on other continents.
LAS – What do you think about illegal migration?
LKA – Illegal migration is a development challenge facing Africa. Youth with talents that, when given opportunities on the continent, can contribute to the continent’s growth, end up on other continents. Given immigration bottlenecks, they do not also contribute to the countries they found themselves in as they are living illegally and cannot avail themselves of meaningful economic opportunities. Their talent and energy end up going to waste. People allude current African development status to the slave trade and colonialism that took place centuries ago – as the continent’s economic and scientific brains were destroyed as they were sent to work on plantations. It is sad to note that such a waste transcended the era and happening in the 21st Century.
LAS – Tell me about the Remigration Program where these illegal migrants are sent back to Africa to work on AAA projects in Africa?
LKA – At AAA, we believe a root cause of illegal migration is the hardship and lack of opportunities in most African countries. Creating career opportunities is a crucial approach to discouraging the practice. Climate change-induced migration is also on the rise. Our remigration programme aims to send African illegal immigrants on other continents back to the mainland, where opportunities will be created for them to work on AAA’s projects.
LAS – How do you face global warming?
LKA – We are facing global warming through our tree planting operations using the Groasis Waterboxx Technology
LAS – What are AAA’s next actions in Africa?
LKA – To collaborate with the African Union in the Great Green Wall Project to plant fruits tree and trees (8 billion) in dry areas in Africa, focusing on the Sahara and the Sahel zones.
LAS – Through the motto “One tree, a thousand hopes”, what kind of actions do you believe you carry out?
LKA – As you already know, trees play a crucial role in absorbing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. We turn to contribute to this goal and, at the same time, solve societal pressing problems. The trees we plant are not just ordinary: we incorporate food trees and trees that can, in the long term, be converted to timber (and reforested) for income. The Technology also supports planting vegetables (on small and commercial scales) to fill household nutritional needs. The planting operations also create jobs. In essence, we contribute to the key of the Sustainable Development Goals: Climate Action, Zero Hunger, No Poverty, Good Health and Wellbeing, and Reduced Inequality.
LAS – Here in Brazil we also have the well-known northeastern sertão that encompasses the following states: Bahia, Alagoas, Pernambuco, Paraíba, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Piauí and Sergipe. Do you believe that there is any possibility that this project will also work in Brazil?
LKA – I firmly believe that Brazil can benefit. Brazil is a developing country facing environmental challenges, including forest depletion (the Amazon Rainforest, for instance) and climate-induced migration. Our Groasis Technology and Remigration programmes are crucial.
LAS – Do you intend to implement this project outside the African continent?
LKA – Yes, I expect to carry out projects in South America and Asia, targeting countries whose land is depleted and are impacted by the climate crisis.
